5 Tips on Organizing Blog Posts to Captivate Your Audience

  • Pictures draw attention!

There wouldn’t be so many pictures on billboards or computer advertisements if they didn’t work. Pictures not only bring attention to something, they keep the it there.

You should at least have one picture within your blog post. I normally like to have a few in each of my articles. Pictures are one of the best ways you can captivate your audience.

  • Keep It Simple Stupid

Aim for around 500 words a blog post. Be direct and to the point. Sometimes there is more to cover and can be appropriate to make a longer post but if you do, make sure you are not rambling on. Have someone read it before you click the publish button to see if it keeps their attention.

If you are second guessing yourself about the length of your writings then it’s probably a good indicator that you should split the article into two blog posts.

  • Make your WORDS stand out

Using the bold tool can be your best friend. Don’t go crazy with it but it can be a great way to keep people reading. If you use to much of it then nothing will stand out.
You can bold the highlights of a paragraph so people get the idea of what it is about. Just by using the bold tool you can spark a greater interest to your blog. Highlighting with different colors and using all caps can be effective as well.
  • Keep the paragraphs short. Long ones are intimidating.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I come across a paragraph that takes up half the screen on my computer, I take a deep breath. It kind of feels like I just became a NFL running back and I’m trying to pound my way through five, 300 pound defensive lineman. Ha If you haven’t noticed… I’m lanky. I’d break.

“Plans that involve not dyeing are good plans.” :) Another great Megamind quote.

Okay, so even though reading a super long paragraph wouldn’t kill you… it still is pretty scary to look at. Break your large paragraphs into smaller ones. Massive paragraphs do bring us something though.

After I finish reading an intimidatingly long paragraph that takes up half the page, I feel accomplished! That little voice that comes from dominating in the video game, Mario Party goes through my head, “New Record!” Haha that accomplished feeling comes  even when I read the smaller paragraphs! I mean, I’m one step closer to finishing.

By having more little paragraphs instead of just a few big ones, you are not only making your post look simple and easy to read, you’re bringing those little accomplishments to your readers more often. :) That just makes everyone happier.

  • Bullet points and numbers make reading easy.

Putting these in your blog posts will help you stick to the point and stay simple. It gives your readers a great outline of what they are about to read which keeps them reading until the end.

When I am reading information online that is presented to me like these tips were described it sure keeps my short attention span focused.  Organize your blog post in a way that captivates your readers.
